About this work

Allegory on the 100th anniversary of Dutch Freedom, 1648-1748. The personification of Dutch Freedom, depicted with a hat on a staff, the Dutch lion, and the banner of Prince William IV, receives the personification of the Century, who has descended from the clouds. Above the throne stand busts of the stadtholders; at the feet of Freedom lies the defeated enemy from the uprising: the Catholic Church.
