About this work

A figure in a robe has shielded his eyes so as not to have to see the sins written on paper hanging in a stall to the left behind him. He is crowned with laurel by an angel. The figures to the right behind him have sinned but are forgiven by Christ thanks to their repentance and penance. Christ sits enthroned with a cross in his hands in the air, blood flows from the wounds in his side and hand onto the sinners to whom he has granted his forgiveness. To the left and right of the central scene stand personifications of sin and conversion. Hanging at the bottom is a cloth with an eight-line Dutch verse. To the left of the verse is a depiction of two sinners, to the right a depiction of two penitents.
