Phaëthon in the Palace of Helios

In the palace of the sun god Helios, Phaethon asks for proof that the sun god is his father. Phaethon kneels before his father, who sits on a throne under a canopy. To prove his paternity, the god allows Phaethon to ask for anything he wishes. The boy then asks for the sun chariot. Below the image, two sets of two lines of Latin text. This print is part of a series of 52 prints depicting stories from Ovid's Metamorphoses. The series is divided into three numbered sets: two sets of 20 prints and one set of 12 prints.
