About this work

Satirical print on the flight of James II to France and his arrival there on Epiphany (6 January) 1689. King Louis XIV embraces Mary of Modena who has arrived with the supposititious child. Front right, King James II in clothing decorated with scallop shells. In the center, the Jesuit Father Peters (Edward Petre) with a papal crown under his cloak. In the background, the Dauphin falls from a sleigh drawn by horses. Below the scene, a verse in four columns with an explanation of the numbers 1-11 in Dutch.
