About this work

Satirical print on the flight of James II to France, and his arrival there on Epiphany (6 January) 1689. King Louis XIV embraces Maria of Modena who has arrived with the supposititious child. Right front King James II in clothing decorated with scallop shells. In the middle the Jesuit father Peters (Edward Petre) with a papal crown under his mantle. In the background the dauphin falls from a sleigh drawn by horses. Below the depiction a poem in 3 columns with an explanation of the numbers 1-11 in Dutch.
