About this work
Satirical print on the flight of James II to France and his arrival there on Epiphany (6 January) 1689. King Louis XIV embraces Mary of Modena, who has arrived with the supposititious child. To the front right, King James II in clothing adorned with scallop shells. In the center, the Jesuit Father Peters (Edward Petre) with a papal crown under his cloak. In the background, the Dauphin falls from a horse-drawn sleigh. Below the image: a verse in 3 columns with an explanation of the numbers 1–11 in Dutch.
