Triumph of Truth

In the middle, the personification of Truth, identified with Christ, is enthroned. On her lap an open book with Biblical proverbs. She holds up a burning oil lamp as the light of the world. Her foot rests on a creature, the Lie, of which one half is a skeleton and the other half a woman. The creature embraces a globe with a cross. On the left stands the personification of (false) Opinion in the guise of an old man in a robe with glasses and a lantern, standing on a pile of books. On the right, the personification of Hypocrisy with snakes and a crayfish in her hands. Above, a putto with a palm branch and a putto with a laurel wreath (symbols of victory) hold a scroll with the Latin translation of: Truth conquers all. Above them Seraphim and below the scroll the Holy Spirit. Above, a six-line text in Latin, and below the image verses in Italian, Spanish, and French.
