About this work

The Destruction of the Old Constitution, an allegorical decoration erected on the Botermarkt in Amsterdam for the Alliance Festival on 19 June 1795. A decoration in the form of the ruin of a Gothic chapel; on the central cartouche, Envy turns the wheel of aristocracy, which sets a millstone in motion. Part of a series of ten plates.
