About this work
Two representations on one plate. Above: the Apostle John flees together with some friends from the bathhouse of Ephesus when he notices the heretic Cerinthus among the bathing men. Below: a woman is burned as a heretic because she did not respond to the advances of a cleric. The executioner lights the pyre with a torch.
