Two scenes on a plate. Above: Ezra stands on a tribune on the square near the Water Gate and reads the laws of Moses aloud. Around the raised platform the listening Jewish people who kneel to pray or throw their arms in the air out of joy. Below: Esther kneels before the throne of the Persian king Ahasuerus and touches the end of his scepter.
