About this work

Two scenes on one plate. Above: A possessed woman who pursues Paul and Silas is addressed by Paul. In the name of Christ he commands the spirit that dwells in her to leave the woman's body. Below: Paul and Silas and their fellow prisoners are freed from prison by an earthquake. The jailer, who sees that all the doors have burst open, wants to commit suicide with his sword, but Paul and Silas prevent him from doing so. Paul subsequently converts the jailer.
