Silver Age

In a round frame the Silver Age of Jupiter. In the foreground some half-clothed people practice the arts. In the background a field is ploughed and people build houses in caves. The print refers to the mythologically inspired idea that during the Silver Age man had to deal with the seasons. One now had to work the land, seek shelter in houses and protect oneself against the cold. Also for the first time there was mention of the practice of the seven liberal arts. The print is part of a series on the four ages and has a Latin, French and Dutch inscription.
