About this work

The various stages of human life represented by figures climbing and descending after the age of fifty, symbolizing the different stages of life. The ladder of life begins with man (both male and female) as a baby and ends with death. Centrally at the bottom of the ladder Christ (or God) enthroned upon the world. Two cartouches at the top left and right contain Dutch inscriptions.
