About this work

King Ahasuerus gives his signet ring to Haman, with which Haman can have his plan carried out in the king's name to have all Jews put to death. In the background, the decision is proclaimed. A small group of Jews sits mourning with ash on their heads. On the right, Queen Esther in her chambers gives a servant the order to bring clothes to Mordecai so he can wear them instead of his mourning clothes. To the left of the building, Mordecai refuses to accept the clothes. Further in the background, Esther prays for a good outcome. Below the image, a reference in Latin to the Biblical text in Esther 3.
