About this work
Statue in honour of Amsterdam mayor Egbert de Vrij Temminck for speaking to the Prince of Orange on 8 June 1781. Standing figure holding the keys of the city of Amsterdam in one hand, with the other hand he pierces Envy with the spear of liberty. At the foot of the column of honour the Amsterdam city maiden and an allegorical female figure with key and ring (possibly Fidelity). In the background right the town hall and left the Kalverstraat. In the caption a four-line verse.
