About this work
English caricature on the French requisition in January 1795. A French sans-culotte has put on a wide pair of trousers from a Dutchman, from which Dutch gold falls. Next to him the Dutchman looking dejected in his underpants. To the left another sans-culotte, also with a pair of trousers filled with Dutch gold, drinks from a bottle of gin. To the right a Frenchman amuses himself with a buxom Dutch woman. Caricature on the compensations that the Batavian Republic had to pay to France.
