The Resurrection of Man

Allegory on the salvation of man. Divine Grace (Gratia) helps the fallen Man (Homo) to his feet. The man supports himself with his hand on a stone, the symbol of Christ as the cornerstone designated as Knowledge of God (Cognito Dei). To the left in the background, she also cares for the fallen man, before the House of Darkness (Domus Tenebrarum) from which he has just emerged. In the house, the images of the preceding prints from this series are repeated more or less. On the right side of the print stands the saved man, Light of Truth (Lumen Veritas), with a burning oil lamp on his head. He points the Man to the three divine virtues, Hope, Faith, and Love, which have appeared on a cloud in heaven. Above them, the dove of the Holy Spirit. The image is clarified by Dutch, French, and German inscriptions in the margin.
