About this work

A cook serves soup to Muslim galley slaves; he is himself a galley slave. In the center, two of them sit by a tub. To the right, a sheep is being skinned, and a dog eats the remains. These enslaved men are identifiable as Muslims by the characteristic hairstyle (shaved head except for a tuft) they were required to wear.
