About this work
A man sits kneeling next to two women with their children. Behind them, two men (likely soldiers) are in conversation with two women. Behind them, two Muslim galley slaves watch. These enslaved men are identifiable as Muslims by the characteristic hairstyle (shaved head except for a tuft) they were required to wear. To the left in the foreground, two sacks stand next to a cannon. To the right in the distance, a galley sails.
