About this work
Islamic galley slaves rest by a fountain. One of them smokes a pipe. These enslaved men are identifiable as Muslims by the characteristic hairstyle (shaved head except for a tuft) which they were required to have. The standing men with turbans are probably papassi (moollahs and representatives of the enslaved Muslims). To the rear right, some ships in the water.
