About this work

Allegorical representation on the Treaty of Altona of 1689. Below portrait busts of Christian Albert, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp and his wife Friederike Amalie of Denmark. In the sky on a cloud their coat of arms. In the middle Mercury bringing the message of peace. To the right behind Mars with mace and sword, behind him all kinds of weaponry. At sea Neptune with his chariot with sea horses is visible. On both sides of the portraits a verse on the Treaty of Altona in German.
