About this work

The Massacre of the Innocents at Bethlehem. Under the watchful eye of King Herod, seated on his throne, newborn children are killed by soldiers. In vain, mothers try to protect their sons. Surrounding the scene is a rocaille frame. In the lower margin, twice a seven-line German and Latin text.
