About this work
The Christ Child lies on hay in the stable in a cave. The kneeling Mary shows him to the shepherds. The shepherds and their wives turn to adore the Christ Child. On the left in the foreground stands Joseph, he draws water from the river into a jug. In the background the Annunciation of the birth of Christ to the shepherds. In the margin a two-line inscription, and below it a dedication in Latin.
