About this work
A guard asks a young man (Godefroy), who secretly visits his beloved (Sybille) at night, for money. The young man puts his hand in his trouser pocket. The bribery scene from the second act of the comedy 'Captain Ulrich or the Deceived Greed' by Johan van Paffenrode (1661). In the play, the greedy character Ulrich is deceived by his wife Sybille, despite him having her guarded. Her lover Godefroy bribes the guard.
