About this work

On a pedestal sits the personification of Music, with a songbook on her lap. Apollo hands her an olive branch. Behind her stands Minerva pointing at the portrait of Anna Stuart, Queen of England. In the background, a ship with a bound soldier. A mermaid desperately raises her arms toward him.
