About this work
An enthroned woman holds the coat of arms of the city of Leiden in her hand and is illuminated by rays originating from the All-Seeing Eye. She is surrounded by personifications of Freedom and Religion. On the left, in front of the throne, sits Father Time holding the symbol of eternity in his hands; snakes biting their own tails. On the right, chained figures are driven away with a club in the background.
