Lutheran preachers in Amsterdam

Below it is depicted a swan, the symbol of the Lutheran church in the Netherlands. Hanging on the gate are portraits of six Amsterdam Lutheran preachers (left, from top: J.C. Baum, J.H. Fortmeijer and C.H. Eberbach, right, from top: J. Tissel, G. Noordenhout and C. Holtzapffel). In front of the gate stand Hope, with burning heart and anchor, and Faith. Faith holds a seventh portrait, of Augustus Sterk, famous preacher but since 1802 no longer active (emeritus).
