About this work

Allegorical title print of the second part of Spanish version of Guerres de Flandres. The general Alexander Farnese, the duke of Parma, carried on a shield receives a sword and hat offered by a personification of the papacy or Catholic church. In the foreground the vanquished enemy and raging furies with snake hair referring to rebellion and discord. In the clouds the coat of arms of Farnese.
