About this work

The deacon Laurentius is roasted over a fire. He rises halfway to turn around. In the foreground, his servants are busy stoking the fire with a bellows and extra fuel. The Roman prefect watches from a chair on a balcony. Around Laurentius, a large group of onlookers. In the air, two angels with a palm branch and a laurel wreath.
