Relief on the pediment of the facade of the Town Hall on the Dam

Relief on the tympanum of the facade (east side) of the Town Hall on the Dam in Amsterdam. In the center sits the Maiden of Amsterdam, wearing the imperial crown on her head. In one hand she holds the city's coat of arms, in the other an olive branch as a symbol of peace. At her feet are two lions. Surrounding her are nereids offering her laurel wreaths. To the right of this group is Neptune. Around the Maiden of Amsterdam are further tritons, hippocamps, fish, seals, swans, and a crocodile. Below the scene is the dedication to the four sitting burgomasters of 1658 (Gerard Schaep, Cornelis de Graeff, Cornelis Jansz. Witsen, and Joan van de Poll) and the two ordinary treasurers of that same year (Joan Huydecoper and Nicolaes Tulp).
