Relief on the tympanum on the front facade of the Town Hall on the Dam

Relief on the tympanum on the front facade (east side) of the Town Hall on the Dam in Amsterdam. In the center sits the Amsterdam Maiden, with the imperial crown on her head. In one hand the city's coat of arms, in the other an olive branch as a sign of peace. At her feet two lions. Around her nereids offering her laurel wreaths. To the right of this group of nereids Neptune. Around the Amsterdam Maiden further tritons, hippocamps, fish, seals, swans and a crocodile. Below the scene the dedication to the four burgomasters in office in 1658 (Gerard Schaep, Cornelis de Graeff, Cornelis Jansz. Witsen and Joan van de Poll) and the two ordinary treasurers of that same year (Joan Huydecoper and Nicolaes Tulp).
