Relief on the tympanum on the rear facade of the Town Hall on the Dam

Relief on the tympanum on the rear facade (west side) of the Town Hall on the Dam in Amsterdam. In the center the Amsterdam Maiden with her feet on a globe, adorned with a Mercury helmet. Against the globe an astrolabe, compass and Jacob's staff. Behind the Amsterdam Maiden an Amsterdam cog. At her feet to the left the river god of the Amstel, with a crown of reeds, an otter and a fish hook. To the right the river god of the IJ, with a ship's crown, a fishing net, an anchor and a dolphin. Around her personifications of the four continents with their retinue offer the Amsterdam Maiden merchandise from their regions. Left America (with feather headdress) and Asia (with turban, camel or dromedary and incense burner), right Europe (with imperial crown and cornucopia) and Africa (with sun hat, necklaces and lion).
