Pope Adrian VI Enthroned

In the center, Pope Adrianus VI sits on a throne. He wears the tiara, the cappa magna, and the keys of Peter. Two putti sit on the back of the throne on either side of a medallion with the letters SPQR (Senatus PopulusQue Romanus). On the upper left sits Minerva. On the right stands a bishop with a staff, fasces, and a shield next to an angel. Below Adrianus' feet is a portion of the book's title, and below that 'E Minima [re] Maxima', meaning 'from the small comes the great', above several figures in a procession. The Pope's right hand rests on the shoulder of, likely, Charles V. The Pope's left hand blesses a cardinal, possibly Willem van Enckevoirt.
