About this work

The man is besieged by all kinds of evil: the satyr Sin (peccatum), Hypocrisy (Hypocrisis: a man with two faces and a mask), Deceit (Mendacium: a man with a mask) and Ignorance (Ignorantia: a woman with a blindfold). They shoot arrows at him. Truth protects him however with a shield on which a large radiant sun is painted. Whoever believes in divine truth has nothing to fear from the evil of the world. The print has a Latin and a Dutch inscription and is part of a series on the triumph of truth.
