About this work

In the foreground the personification of Summer: an adult man, crowned with a wreath of corn. In his hands some ears of corn. In the background summer scenes: haymaking and harvesting peasants. Sheep being washed and shorn and a shepherd with his sheep. Above in the sky the three astrological signs of summer: Cancer, Leo and Virgo. The print has a Latin inscription and is part of a four-part series on the four seasons.
