About this work
The disguised thieves Jan de Rolder and Piet Pothuis raise their glasses in the tavern, where Swaantje is raging behind the bar counter against her husband Fobert. She is so busy with this that she does not notice she is being robbed. In the side room to the right, Hartje Spilpenning and Saartje van Lichten are dressed as Mennonites. At the bottom of the margin a four-line verse in Dutch and French. Scene from the second act of the play De Puiterveense helleveeg, or Beslikte Swaantje aan den tap, by Abraham Alewijn.
