About this work
In the Schepenzaal of the Town Hall on the Dam are various figures, mostly men. The aldermen are sitting in the benches. Some figures are talking to each other and others seem to be admiring the interior. On the ceiling the family coats of arms of the first aldermen are visible. Below the image a three-line inscription, on the left in French and on the right in Dutch. In the center of the text the crowned coat of arms of Amsterdam, held by the Dutch lion.
