About this work

Ferdinand I of Austria (1503-1564), at approx. 35 years of age. He was the second son of Philip the Fair and only brother of Charles V, elected King of the Romans in 1531, and since 1521 married to Anna of Austria (1503-1547). Depicted in chainmail on a galloping horse. He stands upright in the stirrups, as the knights in the time of Dürer were depicted. Top left the coat of arms of the King of the Romans with the Order of the Golden Fleece.
