About this work
A sleeping merchant is robbed and mocked by monkeys. Some monkeys have put on pieces of his merchandise. One monkey has undone his trousers, revealing his buttocks in a mirror; another monkey is defecating in his hat. In the background, a group of dancing monkeys with musical instruments. With an inscription of eight lines in Dutch.
