About this work

View of the Singel in Amsterdam with the burning dome of the New Lutheran Church in the centre. Men attempt to extinguish the fire with water from the canal. The inhabitants of the surrounding houses are being evacuated. Many spectators have gathered on the opposite side of the canal. A man climbs a tree to obtain a better view of the burning building.
