About this work

The fire in the Old Town Hall of Amsterdam and some adjacent buildings on 7 July 1652. To illustrate the old and new way of extinguishing fires. To the left an attempt is made to extinguish the fire with buckets and ladders, to the right the fire is fought with fire engines. With a four-line inscription in Dutch and French. Top left signed: A. Plate 3 in the Fire Engine Book by Jan van der Heyden.
