Birth and wedding scene

Allegorical representations on the occasion of the marriage of A. Daane and M.G. Bouwmeester on 5 February 1809. The print contains numerous symbols pointing to faith, love, fertility, the passage of time, happiness and adversity. A young man with a burning torch and an olive branch carries a yoke adorned with flowers and is chained at his feet. Beside him stands Faith. She tramples under her feet some figures symbolizing disaster and jealousy. An old man looks up at Father Time, who holds a blank sheet. On the ground sits Charity with a lion and a lamb beside her. In the sky, a group of putti and two hands holding rings, with a banner bearing text on the holy nature of marriage.
