About this work

In a hilly landscape near the ruin of a house sits an elegant couple with telescope, dressed according to the fashion of ca. 1620. The man looks through the telescope at the woman who wears a gown and a wide pleated collar and looks at the sky. Behind the elegant couple stands a jester figure with pince-nez on his nose. Below the image two columns with Latin text. The print is part of a series of prints about the five senses.
