About this work

In a shoemaker's workshop the shoemaker plays the bagpipes. Opposite him sits his wife, resting on her distaff, a child at her breast. Other children play in the room. Against the back wall two apprentices who are also not working. On the wall an image of a woman sitting on a fence with some geese around her.
