About this work
The Dutch warship Mars, under the command of Rear-Admiral Willem Crul, attacked by three English warships on 4 February 1781. The Mars was escorting a convoy of Dutch merchant vessels from Sint Eustatius. The caption contains an eight-line poem and a reference to page 164.
