About this work

Scene from the poem 'Le Muletier' by Jean de La Fontaine. To prove that he has taken his place in the royal bed, King Agiluf cuts a lock of hair from the groom. However, the groom outwits him and cuts a lock from all the maids, so he can no longer be recognized. Reproduction of a proof with sketches in the margins.
