About this work
A man in a loincloth opens the gate to China. To the left stands a group of putti with navigational instruments, a map of China, and a globe oriented towards Southeast Asia. Above them, on the left, the IHS monogram radiates light towards a personification of Christianity. She holds a mirror and reflects the rays towards a putto with a torch, which he lights. Putti with ecclesiastical attributes stand on clouds nearby.
