About this work

Allegory on the breaking of peace with Algiers and the subsequent departure of the Dutch consul from Algiers. An Algerian (pirate) with a drawn sword and a torn treaty tramples a female personification (Free Trade?). In the background, the consul leaves the city gate to board a ship.
