About this work

Allegory on the breaking of peace with Algiers and the subsequent departure of the Dutch consul from Algiers, 20 February 1755. An Algerian (pirate) with drawn sword and torn treaty tramples a female personification (Free Trade?). In the background the consul leaves the city gate to board a ship.
