About this work
Allegory on the breaking of peace with Algiers and the subsequent departure of the Dutch consul from Algiers, 20 February 1755. An Algerian pirate with a drawn sword and a torn treaty tramples a female personification (possibly Free Trade). In the background, the consul leaves the city gate to board a ship.
